What are Founding Habitats?

Written and reviewed by Mars Move-In · Updated October 5, 2026

Short answer

Founding Habitats are ten buildings we seeded so the colony doesn't open empty. Nine can be claimed for a flat $5; the buyer renames and redesigns them, and from then on they're normal plots. MarsMoveIn HQ stays ours.

Why they exist

An empty map is hard to picture. Founding Habitats show what a settled colony looks like, spread across Jezero Crater from the outer ring to near the pad.

Claiming one

Tap a habitat marked "Founding Habitat" and press Claim. It costs $5 wherever it is. You choose a new name, logo, address and habitat type; the founding name is kept only as history.

Nobody owned it before you, so a founding claim counts as a first claim: standard habitats only, and no Oxygen Credits go to anyone.

After that

It's a normal plot: anyone can take it over for 1.25× its value, and you receive Oxygen Credits if they do.

Key points

  • Nine claimable for $5 each
  • Redesign them completely
  • Then they're normal plots
  • MarsMoveIn HQ is not for sale
